Now that we're in the swing of things with back-to-school, here are a few recipes to help you get through dinner time a bit easier!  

The crockpot is always a good tool for dinner time, and we have several recipes on our blog.  Dressing makes a great side for most meals, and this one has some 'cheats' to help you make it even faster.  Finally, Make the cheese sauce ahead of time, as it will keep up to a week in the fridge.

Crockpot Sausage Soup
  • 1 lb smoked sausage (chopped)
  • 3-4 potatoes (chopped)
  • 2-3 carrots (diced)
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 64 oz chicken broth
  1. Mix everything together in crockpot.
  2. Cook on high 5-6 hours.
  3. Serve with sauerkraut and breadsticks or pretzels.
Apple Cornbread Dressing
  • 3 c chicken broth
  • 1 stick buter
  • 1/2 onion (diced)
  • 1/2 stalk celery (diced)
  • 1 Granny Smith apple (diced)
  • 2 boxes cornbread stuffing
  1. Heat chicken broth to a boil.
  2. In a separate pan, melt butter and cook onion, celery, and apple.
  3. Mix everything together with the stuffing.
Homemade Cheese Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp wheat flour
  • 1 c milk
  • 3/4 c shredded cheese (any kind)
  1. Melt butter on medium.  
  2. When melted, add flour to make a paste.  Once bubbly, stir another minute more.
  3. Add milk and turn heat up to high.  Once bubbly again, turn down to medium.  Stir the whole time.
  4. Let thicken.  Add in cheese, and stir to melt.
